What's the scoop?

-
Who can come to Defined Smiles?Anyone! We welcome all ages and genders to access dental hygiene services at our clinic. Whitening is accessible to ages 16 and over with parental consent.
-
Why do I need to see a Dental Hygienist?Dental hygienists play an important role in optimal oral health as the oral cavity is the gateway to your body. Poor oral hygiene is linked to heart disease, dementia, diabetes, respiratory disease, pre-term birth and more. Your hygienist will recommend a hygiene treatment schedule based on your risk factors such as 6,4 or 3 month visits to help maintain optimal oral health.
-
Can I still see my dentist?Yes! Dental hygienists focus on prevention so you can still see your dentist for treatment. Defined Smiles will work closely with your dentist or find a dentist for you to provide the appropriate care that you need. A yearly exam is recommended by a dentist but we will provide thorough exams at your appointments and will make recommendations if we see anything to be addressed.
-
Does whitening make my teeth sensitive?Generally, patients experience minimal to no sensitivity with professional whitening, if there is any it usually subsides within hours. We use a special formulated gel that is combined with hydrogen and carbamide peroxide which helps minimizes sensitivity during whitening. Post whitening, we will apply a "Soothe post white gel" which helps rehydrate the teeth and help with any sensitivity.
-
Do you do direct billing?Yes! Defined smiles is registered to do EDI claims with most major insurance companies. The ones that don't accept EDI claims we can submit manually and if you have more than one benefit plan we can submit to them both. We recommend checking your benefit plan prior to your appointment to see what your coverage is. If you need help determining what to check, look under the "payment" tab for helpful questions to ask or send us a message!
